Willard Home

Last Thursday we went to Willard Home. There were lots of old people and we read stories and we made Christmas posters to give to them.

I liked making things for the Willard Home people - they really like our posters.

little garden

this year we have been planting little gardens the whole class have planted one i planted spinach i did't get to eat it we planted it in the garden to grow bigger.

Art Review

This year we have done lots of art. My favourite piece of art was my calendar art painting of myself. This is my favourite because I got a lot of time to work on it. I like trying to mix the colours.

Art makes me feel nervous I'm not too good at art. I get worried that I can't do it.

Chapter Chat Review

This year we have been doing Chapter Chat. We tweet with people from all over New Zealand. We have read: Person Controller, The Magic Faraway Tree, Because of Winn Dixie, and Charlotte's Web.

My favourite book was The Person Controller. I liked this book best because it has lots of soccer in it and I like sport.

I really liked Chapter Chat because I like doing the tweets and the Chapter Chat tasks.

Te Reo

This term we are learning to use everyday Te Reo phrases.    

Photography

This term we are learning how to take quality photos.

We learnt about using the grid to help with the rule of thirds, angles and lines.

I found deciding what to take quite challenging. I had some photos from my trip to Hamilton. There was lots of snow when we came home.

Sport Start

This term we have been doing Sport Start - I like doing the elephant roll. I performed the tuck roll in assembly. I find the teddy bear roll tricky.

Lukas Grows Down

Our class read the book called Otto Grows Down. We thought it was funny that everything went backwards.

We made our own movie. I enjoyed it when the kids were eating. It was gross watching Henry eat yoghurt in reverse. It looked like he was getting yoghurt from his mouth!

We have entered this into the digi awards competition.

Polar bear flat pack

We started doing flat pack things I made a polar bear and the peices were flat we had to glue sheets to our books and after we made ourselves one I did mine on the mat but it was a practice one

Red hat- in discovery I felt sad because Ryan did not let me play with him and even asked to. I felt happy when Peyton and Jarrod let me join in with their imaginz house.

Blue hat - what is the point for discovery?

Because it encourages us to play with other people. We also have to problem solve and be creative.

Olympic day

To day was olympics day and we all got into groups of different countries. Our class was split between Spain and Netherland. The activities we did included boat racing high jump fencing shot put and archery. My favourite activity was high jump because I like jumping around the place nervous because it was my first time doing it.

Creative Crayon Writing

The best thing in my writing is how many nouns I wrote for the colour blue.  Next time I would like to write some adjectives to describe the blue things and use some different words for blue. I enjoyed the crayon art and writing.

Water xylophone

Water xylophone in water xylophone we had to listen to the sounds of an actual xylophone and we had glass bottles of water and figure out if it is correct or not with a bettor

 

Yesterday in maths I was measuring volume of different containers. I used jelly beans and counted that we filled it with 400 jellybeans

Tin foil boats

Today we did maths the integer day this activity is tin foil boats I could fit 120 in the boat with out it sunk but then it did sink to the bottom of the plastic box

Lolly cake

In discovery we made lolls cake. 

Make Lolly Cake using this recipe. Be sure to measure your ingredients carefully!

Lolly Cake

Ingredients:

120 g butter
250 g malt biscuit crumbs
180 g fruit puffs
1/2 tin condensed milk
coconut – for coating

Method:

1. Warm butter and condensed milk together in the microwave.
2. Add biscuit crumbs and fruit puffs.
3. Stir well.
4. Roll into one log or small balls. Coat in coconut.

Week 2 Discovery Reflection

What went well today?

Today something that went well was...people wanted to play with me because at the start of Discovery time then some kids came to ask me to play with them

What was a challenge today?

A challenge I had was to make a snake as long as the table. We worked together as a team to make it out of play dough.

Holidays

In the holidays I went to my nan and grandads I stayed for two days same as my brother who always wakes me up in the middle of the night in the morning I went on a hike we could see our car and the milk factory then we went to pak in save I asked if we could climbed up the water tower but we couldn't do it because the stears were to steap and slippery at the motel on tv dad was watching the golf then we had to go bed but before I went to bed we got a treat ice cream.The next day we went 

Te Reo Verbs

We have been learning to write simple sentences in te reo.

I found it challenging because it is my first time actually learning te reo.

Maths - Perimeter & Area

In Maths we are learning about area and perimeter.

The perimeter is the outside of the shape (orange/red)
The area is the number of squares inside.

I am feeling confident with finding area & perimeter using popsicle sticks.

Pet Letter

Dear Brenda,

I do not want to get a class pet because it will distract us with our learning and because it will stink. Who would pay for all the money? It is too expensive and who would clean up all of it's poo! I do not want to clean up all of it's poo! It would be too loud and every kid will be covering their ears.

In conclusion I do not want to get a class pet.

A while ago it was assembly click on the links above to watch it. I didn't want a speaking part but at my old school was a host twice. For our assembly I did a Mathletics Live challenge in front of the whole school.

I felt nervous. Next time we have assembly, I want a speaking part.

Dance NZ Made

Dance NZ Made is a competition. To start with I didn't want to do it. But I changed my mind. I just wanted to do it because I like dancing. Every week we practise with Dean McKerras. Next term we will compete on stage.

Chapter Chat

On Fridays our class does Chapter Chat. We answer questions and share our work with other classes all over New Zealand.

I like Chapter Chat because I LOVE the Minecraft creative activities. I also like writing different tweets.

 We have to write quality tweets.

I made this cake with mum. My class loved it when I shared it with everyone.

World of math

On Thursday 16 June the math road show came to our school. We got to take part in lots of fun math activities. The most challenging activity was the one you had to measure the distances of the race tracks. My favourite one was when we had to follow directions to get a marble through a maze.

Sport start

This term our class has been using Sports Start. We are getting better at these skills:

• running
• catching
• passing
• throwing
• jumping
• fast reactions
• batting

Our class has been playing Diamond Ball which is like Baseball/Softball.

Cross country

Today is cross country. I am feeling excited. My goal is to Come in the top 5.

Here is a picture of me after the cross country. I felt exhausted!

I did really well at the cross country because I achieved my goal. I cam 5th!

The course was pretty cool.

Planet Earth & Beyond

This term we are studying ‘Planet Earth and Beyond’. Part of this Inquiry includes looking at how we get shadows, as well as day and night. Over the term we will be doing different investigations to better our understanding. Below is a sample of what I think I know at the beginning of the term.

Swimming Sports

At swimming sports I did the fluter bourd race and I was nirvis because it was my first time doing it but it was fun. I also did a free style race. The water was deep. I am in kereru - the blue house. I had a fun day.

Maths

I am learning how I can use animal strips in an array to help me solve multiplication questions.

 

My reflection:
This was a bit tricky for me because this is new learning for me. I need to learn my 5 times tables off by heart.

Active Listening

We are learning about different types of listening. There are 3 main types of listening that we learnt about. Busy Listening - When the person listening is busy doing something. They are too busy to concentrate on what is being said. Me Too Listening - When the person listening has a story that they feel is more important than the person talking so they interrupt and share their story instead of listening. Active Listening - When the person listening looks at the person talking, concentrates, gives non-verbal feedback (e.g. nodding) and asks questions about the story. To learn about the different types of listening, we watched this video:

 

 As a class we created our own video to help us understand the different types.
After practising each type of listening, we realised…

• Busy listening makes us feel like you’re not listening to us. We found it really hard to keep talking. 
• Me too listening makes us feel frustrated and sad that you think your story is more important. 
• Active listening makes us feel valued. We know you are listening because you are looking, nodding, asking questions. 

 As a class we are all trying to get better at being active listeners.

Music

In music with Jenny we played instruments.  And with the instruments we played hailstones

I enjoyed doing this.

In week 6 we were learning to work together as a team.

THIS IS WHAT WE DID...

• On Monday - we went to Massey to do a bush walk and then we went to Kids Republic.
• On Tuesday - we had a construction day.
• On Wednesday - we had an art day.
• On Thursday - we had a water day.
• On Friday - we had a camp day.

My favourite day was camp day because we got to go in the tents, make smores and make pizza.
